The Brigham Young University’s Department of Theatre and Media Arts announces its first ever virtual theatre season for the 2020-21 academic year. Although the pandemic has given us an unusual set of parameters to perform within, we’ve responded with, “Yes, and…!” This year, join us from wherever you are for stories based on ancient myths to contemporary refugees, An Ideal Husband to Pirates of Penzance, all live-streamed and without cost at the click of a button, thanks to our generous donors.

Some students may have a passion for theatre and media arts but do not want to pursue it as a career. Therefore the department has created many opportunities for non-majors.
The graduate program is a scholarly two-year degree that consists of a core of history and theory classes complemented by electives chosen by the student in conjunction with an advisor.
The Department of Theatre & Media Arts offers four different areas within the theatre arts programs: acting, music dance theatre, theatre arts education and theatre arts studies.
The media arts studies program produces students with a strong liberal arts foundation that can be used in a variety of film-related careers or prepare them for graduate studies.
STUDENT FILMS | BYU
Brigham Young University has a long, rich history in the creation and education of film. BYU was one of the first universities to create a formal department for the production of motion pictures, which was founded in 1953. Currently, the BYU Media Arts Program and the Center for Animation have won more than 30 National and Regional Student Emmys in the past 12 years making BYU one of the most well-respected Film and Animation programs in the nation.

Earlier this year, Brigham Young University established the BYU Committee on Race, Equity, and Belonging. This committee is “deeply committed to realizing the recent call to action and reflecting the united declaration of leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the NAACP that educational institutions ‘review processes, [policies], and organizational attitudes regarding racism and root them out’” (https://race.byu.edu/mission).
